Eimear Picks Up Good Vibrations from the North East!!!!

November 19th, 2009 by Amelia

Andy Hugman of Re:action and Gill Burgess of Revolution Marketing admire Johanna's Gong.

As I set out on the road yesterday with my lovely colleague Eimear, visiting us from London, I was prepared for a long, busy day, of Global Entrepreneurship Week event reporting.

Boy were we pleasantly surprised when at our last event of the day, feeling a little weary to say the least, we were offered some complimentary stress relief!

Our final stop of the day was Hexham for the launch of a brand new enterprise, Sound Touch, run by Johanna Sheehan. The company uses a combination of sound vibration and massage techniques to create a sense of calm and relaxation.

Nominations for the Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion 2010 have now opened.  Lord Mandelson suggests that ‘recipients of The Queen’s Award for Enterprise Promotion (QAEP) are outstanding individuals who are inspiring tomorrow’s entrepreneurs and giving them the skills and attitudes they need to succeed’ and that ‘they hold the key to unlocking Britain’s entrepreneurial talents and they deserve all the praise and thanks we can give them.’

Last year’s winners of the Award included Make Your Mark Ambassador Jamie Murray-Wells and longstanding MYM friend Charles Cracknell, as well as others including lecturers, teachers and practitioners. If you feel that someone deserves recognition for their role in promoting enterprising skills and attitudes then nominate them now!

We’re busy putting out the message that Village SOS is open for applications – for villages with a population under 3,000 who have a community business idea, and for individuals who have run a successful business or project and think they have the skills to become a ‘Village Champion’, and turn the village’s business idea into a reality.

Who better to help publicise the opportunity than the Testostatones, a group of young men who have modernised the barber shop quartet and are currently touring rural pubs in Suffolk and Norfolk singing a Village SOS jingle.

Amazing creative opportunities for creative 13-19 year olds

June 15th, 2009 by hbourne

On Friday I went to a fab event to celebrate the success of BBC Blast, a BBC Learning initiative which brings together creative teenagers and gives them loads of opportunities to attend workshops, get creative intern placements, find mentors and enter competitions.

The impact it has on some of those who attend is plain to see. AJ, who is now the ‘face’ of Blast attended a workshop and as a consequence got a creative internship at the BBC. There she got the chance to do some presenting for Blast and is now the ‘face’ of its programming. All from attending a workshop…

Dedicated followers of fashion – Coventry style

November 21st, 2008 by caroline

Laura and I were press ganged into acting as judges for a special fashion challenge this week by Progressive Educational Tools (PET) and we had a great time – as did the participants.  Now you may think that Coventry isn’t a particuarly fashion forward place – eg Bex and her I love Coventry t-shirts, thanks Bex.  But you’d be wrong.

The two teams had mixed pupils from Sherbourne Fields and Blue Coats schools to take part in the challenge to produce and original fashion brand, including designs, logo and radio ad.

Make Your Mark and the British Phonographic Institute today organised an opportunity for young people who wish to enter the music industry to network with industry insiders. There was a fantastic buzz in the room as the young guests seized the opportunity to learn what working in the industry is really like. Several of the industry insiders said that they wished they had had such an opportunity when they were first starting out.

In this video Richard Mollet the Director of public affairs at BPI talks about what sort of people the music industry is looking for.

Savio Salesian College host a Women’s Enterprise Day

September 18th, 2008 by jacqui

Over the past couple of months I have had the pleasure of meeting and working with some very enterprising young girls from Savio Salesian College Specialists in business and enterprise. A group of their Year 11 girls organised an event at the South Sefton Partnership For Learning Centre to encourage more young girls at their school to become more enterprising.

When we heard about this we thought it was a fantastic idea as did some of our ambassadors who took part in the day which took place yesterday.
