Students make a splash and cook up a treat with new challenges
November 20th, 2008 by lindseyWell it’s none stop here in Yorkshire and Humber region. After yesterday’s success with the Challenge we thought the students would be taking it easy… not likely!
Students from Challenge College in Bradford had a great day with the launch of the One Water Challenge. More than 200 students turned up to discuss ways in which they could promote and sell bottled water to raise money to buy pumps for African communities.
Many of them were surprised to hear about the poverty in other countries but this just spurred them on to come up with bigger and better ideas. But don’t listen to me rambling on have a look at the podcast and see for yourself – there’s some great suggestions!
In Wakefield the students were cooking up some winning creations at the launch of this year’s Junior Chef Challenge. The competition is in its fourth year and is organised by Community Food and Health Team at NHS Wakefield District, in partnership with the Make Your Mark campaign and Wakefield College.
The students have been asked to come up with Michelin star quality food. Just have a look at their faces as they try some of the dishes created by the experts at the College.
Yummy – our tummies are rumbling already. Good luck to all those taking part and if you need some more judges to test out some of those tasty treats you know where to come!

The Wakefield College student Chefs worked very hard and produced a wide range of great dishes using ingredients which some of the school pupils had not tried before but judging by the empty plates - thoroughly enjoyed! I am looking forward to seeing the challenge entries and watching the winning dish be produced at the Food and Drink Festival. Come on all Wakefield Junior Chefs!
