The best Enterprise Week Event I have ever attended……..
November 19th, 2008 by helenIt is a sad state of affairs when i am a day behind in blogging only 3 days into Enterprise Week but there has been so much going on in the North West this week that is exactly what has happened.
For the past 2 days i ahve had the lovely Daniel from Policy accompany me around some of the amazing events in the North West including an event which i can safely say is the best Enterprise Week i have attended in the 3 that i have seen first hand.
The Hero Project in Blackpool worked with Australian organisation StepUp who flew over especially to work with 500 young people from school, referal units and special education school for the area. The anxious students soon changed into enthusiastic, energetic and fully enterprising young people. Guest speakers that included John Farnworth, the worlds greatest football freestyler, spoke about how he put in 12 hour days to become the best and being enterprising has turned his passion into a business and has worked with Mitre to develop the first freestyle football.
The “outrageous” Simon Woodroffe from Yo! was next up. He was truely inspirational and it is no mean fete to hold the attention of 500 young people for over 1 hour but that is exactly what Simon managed. With quotes like “Everything that has ever happened in the world started with a thought by someone like you”, Simon left the young people so inspired they not only took to their feet for a round of applause they stood on chairs and stamped their feet and cheered the place down. Simon was also the perpetrator of the most random moment of the day when he sung he heart out “Ian Dury and the Blockheads” style to a self pened tune. We are hoping to get that online before the end of the week.
The two day event ended by the young people writing notes to themselves about what they are going to StepUp in their lives. This letter will be posted back to the young people within the next four months. A truely inspirational event with an amazing energy, passion and oozing enterprise spirit. It was an honour to attend.

Wow, that sounds like an amazing two days. Can’t wait to see Simon’s blockhead moment!
