Meetup to make it happen
June 19th, 2007 by Jo HillI can’t believe how quickly Open Coffee Club has taken off - it was started to encourage entrepreneurs, developers and investors to meetup informally to talk about their ideas. Saul Klein started it in a Starbucks cafe in London in early March and now only a few months later there are over 58 Open Coffee Clubs all over the world - including in Coventry, Manchester, Bristol, Sheffield, Liverpool…. and counting - how does something like this grow so fast? I guess it is pretty easy to start a group like this - just pick a place / date and invite some interesting people to get together. There are some interesting thoughts on Saul’s blog on what makes an Open Coffee Club work well.
There are lots of other local groups, clubs and meetups on the Make Your Mark map as well as a calendar of upcoming events all over the country - you can sign up for a fortnightly listing of events in your region. Other good places to find groups and events are www.meetup.com and www.upcoming.org
Some of my favourite groups are Brighton Girl Geek Dinners, Monkey Tennis, London Green & Ethical Startup group, Chicks with Bricks, Fish on Toast
If you want to start a group, tell me jo@makeyourmarkconnect.org and I can tell you all the things we’ve learnt from other people who have done it already.
